Jackson, Apr 18th 1861
Ever remembered cousin,
I received your kind and most welcome letter of 21st ult and was pleased to know that I was not forgotten. Dora I have written 6 or 7 letters to you but it seems you have not received more than one or two of them; but I will try again. There is a great deal of excitement down here; the cannon was firing and bells were ringing to day on the strength of Virginia going out of the Union. There is every prospect of war here militaries companies are passing through here nearly every day on their way to Pensacola.
