Bigbee Bottom, March 10th
Mr. A.W. Feemster
My dearest Alex,
Another gloomy rainy day: we have had so many of them recently. Charlie & I left home Sunday evening the first of March in a slight sprinkle of rain & we could not get back until the Wednesday evening following. The next day he took the buggy to town for Lee Oden who was at home for a few days and didn't get back until last Saturday evening the 7th instant. He brought me a letter from Aunt Eliza & one from you dated Feb. 17th also $67.75 from Samil McWitherspoon. I believe I told you in my last that I had sent him another dues. Woodson Kennon (nephew of Witherspoon's) told Pa a few days afterwards that if I would send in my note he would pay it that he had had the money for sometime. I only called for $62.05 a few days after Kennon came to Chas. & gave him five dollars more for interest said his uncle sent it. I wanted some money very badly when I was in town sent to John Garvin but did not get it until the evening I got home: but just as I was starting Charlie handed me a sealed envelope containing our account to Dr. Jno. T. McCune $17.50 so the money for the house rent & a little more just paid & left me .60 cents and I owed Aunt Bettie $1.25 so you better believe I was glad to get Mr. Witherspoon money. We all went in town to church and heard an excellent sermon from bro Stainback "a sound mind", Pa & Emma took dinner at Bro. G.T.S's Ma Nannie & Lelia at Bro Jefferson Garvins I at Emma Henry's while Charl came home. After dinner went up to Bro Garvin's (at Pa's house) where I staid until Monday morning when Julia & I went uptown from which place I came back as usual penniless. I met Mr. Witherspoon & family they treated me very cordially. I told him of the mistake & gave him back .75 cents. They insisted on my coming & spending sometime with them. Julia & I took dinner at Aunt Bettie's so did Pa at the table he handed me two letters one from Willie & the other from the one I love best.
