Pursuant to a previous call a convention of ministers and elders of the Cumberland Presbyterian church met at the C. P. church in Selma Alabama Sept 5th 1863 at 10 o'clock A.M. A discourse was preached by Rev. J. P. Campbell of the Nashville Presbty from Ezekiel 33 chapt. 7 & 8th verses - On motion of Rev. W. D. Chaddick, Rev. S. M. Cowan was called to the chair until the permanent organization of the convention. On motion of Rev. J. P. Campbell, Rev. L. C. Ransom & Bro. N. Waller were appointed to prepare a roll of the ministers and elders present whereupon the following roll was presented Ministers Rev. S. M. Cowan of the McDonald Presbytery " J. P. Campbell " Nashville " " J. C. Near " Alabama " " W. D. Chaddick " Tennessee " " A. A. Bell " Alabama " " W. E. McKenzie " Springfield " " J. S. Howard " McGee " " J. T. Borah " Union " " J. A. Carpenter " Greenville " " A. S. Browning " Alabama " " S. H. Buckhanan " Ewing " " L. C. Ransom " St. Louis " " J. M. B. Roach " Alabama " Elders O. T. Jones " Alabama " J. M. Burke " " " W. B. Jones " Tennessee " B. J. Fort " Alabama " D. Gaston " " " Whitman Harrell " " " T. W. Bell " Tennessee " N. Waller " Alabama " Rev. S. M. Cowan was unanimously chosen chairman of the Convention and Rev. J. S. Howard clerk On motion of Rev. J. P. Campbell the chairman appointed a committee to prepare a synopsis of business proper to be brought before this convention. Committee consisting of committee consisting of Rev. J. P. Campbell, J. C. Near, W. E. McKenzie, J. T. Borah, W. D. Chaddick and Elders, W. B. Jones & J. M. Burke
