Bigbee Bottom March 10th 1864
Mr. A. W. Feemster
My Own Dear Alex,
Judging from myself, this has
been a long week to you. It always [seems] twice as long when I
don't get a letter. Last week seem- [tear] -way, for I had three
letters one dated Feb 21st one Feb [tear] the last which I received
Friday; was dated Feb 7th. Nothing [tear] the latter was out of
date, it was interesting nevertheless; [tear] of Feb 28th inspired
me with new life and energy. If [tear] -ays been beloved (as I
believe) I am now my character and [tear] would have been
different but then perhaps I might [not] have gone to any Higher
source than earthly fountains for [tear] & joy. But thanks
be to His holy name who called me [from darkness] into the marvellous
light and liberty of the Gospel when [tear] and distrust arise
I can fly to him for counsel and [tear]th. He can make all
things right I attended church in town [tear] Sunday. Bro Stainback
made an appeal in behalf of [the ma]imed soldiers his text
was in Job 29c.15v. He took up a [tear] got about $500 in
money & subscriptions. I gave $10.00 [tear] appointed Aunt Edith
& Mrs Dick Jones a committee from church & Mrs Hooks from
the Campbellite to act in concert with committees from each
of the other churches in visiting & soliciting outsiders. I staid
until Tuesday eve. I love to stay there. Her home seems so much
like our own sweet sweet Home. And Hallie seems more like
a sister than Emma. I kept thinking I would write while
I was there but kept putting it off until it was too late.
Cora & Mattie sit on the floor & play [tear] together. I believe the
only things that Mattie can do & Cora can't are to crawl & stand
up by a chair. O yes I like to have forgotten to tell you that
I have at last succeeded in getting our hats. They look
very well indeed. The woolen is [tear] soft but a very pretty
shape & when I get it bound & lined If [tear] don't want it I know
