Dear Lee
     Your long expected and welcome letter was received this morning and I hasten to reply. I feared from your long silence that you had rejoined your command and was much disappointed, for I had flattered myself that we would meet again, and that there would be mutual pleasure in our reunion. Your letter announcing your intended visit is a very agreeable surprise. I will be at home, (Shuqualak) from the 25th to the 2nd next month. Come prepared to remain more than a day. Lyda is with me - we are boarding, but very comfortably situated for Confederate times. Shuqualak has nothing in and of itself to recommend it, but I think we can make your time pleasant. Your friends in Columbus would also be glad to welcome you, and doubtless a visit there would nicely repay you in enjoyments. I will expect you between the dates above written.
     Sims, poor fellow, was wounded and fell into the enemy's hands - his wound was not reported dangerous, but painful. I sympathize greatly with him, for I was attached to him. He is a noble man, and worthy of our friendship.
     I regret that you have been so unpleasantly situated in the Hospital. Chills are very annoying and debilitating,
