Mr James M ? [scratched out]
Sir, I must confess, that I was not a little surprised, at the reception of a letter from one, who was comparatively a stranger; which has caused me, no little anxiety; as I did not care for the attention of gentlemen; Yet as you desire an interview with me, & I wish never to wound the feelings of anyone; I have concluded to answer this letter, and consent to your calling whenever it is consistant with your feelings, for I have always disapproved of ladies corresponding with gentleman.
Yours with kindness
Mrs S. E. C.
