My dear Cousin Mary-
Although my mind was prepared for it by the telegrams received by Dock at Demopolis, the certain announcement of my dear aunts death did not reach me until two days ago. Next to the loss of a parent comes the loss of one I loved as I did her. Deeply, truly can I sympathize with my dear cousins in their great affliction. Was she not the best of mothers--was there ever a more perfect exhibition of that blessed relation? Mother! A fountain of love on earth a guide to the heaven of bliss & joy, hereafter. But she is gone. God took her & she is not.
