Dear Mims:
Your letter of several days ago came promptly to hand. I wish to assure you of its appreciation. I am always glad to hear from you, and delighted, at all times to have you visit me. I have been trying to arrange matters here that I might get a day off and run over and see you, but, so far have not succeeded in doing so. I am giving you my promise to go over as soon as I can get through with my crops.
We are having a long dry spell here, and our crops are showing the effects of it. Cotton is small, and fruiting poorly. Old Corn is entirely ruined. Young Corn is still looking promising. I understand that you all had good rains lately-which, of course, mean an improvement in crop prospects. I fully believe all farm products will receive better prices this fall than usual.
