[typed note pasted in front cover]
This little book contains a few things written down by my dear father, John Calvin Williams, during the awfull [sic] yellow fever epidemic here, at Dry Grove, Miss, during the fall of 1878. In which my father died with the fever on the 31st of October - 78 ,
It plainly showes [sic] that my father was in deep trouble and turned to God for help. I am satisfied that he was converted, and I truly hope and believe, was saved.
It showes [sic] that Miss Jane Flewellen, who lived with us, died on Monday the 2nd day of October, so also Tom & Charlie Caston, and on the same day a negro woman, Caroline Wolfe, died. On the 4fourth [sic] Tom Caton died.
