Whereas, on the 9th day of October AD. 1844 a writ of alias fieri facias on Bond was placed in my hands as sheriff of Jefferson County, Mississippi, by the clerk of the Circuit Court of said County, as the suit of Maunsel White, Cuthberth Bullett, Robert Shaw Shaw [sic] and Theodore Rion, partners in trade under the firm name of ""Maunsel White & Co"" against the goods and chattels, lands and tenements of Charles T. Miles, Edwin McKey, Philip O. Hughes, Charles Clark and David M. Darden for the sum of Two Thousand and seventy three and six cents beside interest and costs of suit. And Whereas I did, as sheriff aforesaid, on the said ninth day of October 1844 levy said writ of alias fieri facias on three negro slaves, to wit: Henry, Sarah and Caroline - also one Carriage and a pair of Horses as the property of defendant Philip O. Hughes- And Whereas on the first Monday (4th day) of November A.D. 1844, I did, as sheriff of said County of Jefferson proceed to sell said property at the door of the Court House of said County of Jefferson, between the hours prescribed by law, after having given due notice of said sale according to law, when John P. Darden, then and there appeared, and bid for said slaves Henry, Sarah and Caroline (the same being sold in one lot) the sum of Five Hundred Dollars, and the said John P. Darden also appeared and bid for the Carriage and pair of Horses the sum of Two Hundred Dollars - which said several bids being the highest and best bids that was offered for said property as the same was put up as above set forth, and more than any other person or persons offered or bid therefor, the said property was severally struck off to the said John P. Darden and he became the purchaser thereof- Now, Know all men by these presents, that for and in consideration of the promises and the sum
