Transcript	Fayette Sept 5, 1864 Capt. J.P. Darden Dr. Sir I have requested Mr. Mead to call & see you about the cotton he hauled away. He still says he only got 26 bales. When at your house I examined the cotton & found seven bales missing. I thought that if Mead could get rope he could haul away 34 bales, that is the no I had down in my memorandum book. He called on me & informed me he could get no bagging or rope, & requested me to let him have cotton ? Rodney, which I did. I hope he will make it satisfactory with you. [Bottom portion torn off]
