Transcript	New Orleans, April 24/[18]80 Dear Cammie You doubtless wonder what has become of me, so I will write you a document to the effect that I am alive & kicking manfully and have no notions of shuffling off this mortal corpus yet awhile. I enjoy splendid health, and peace of mind except, by the way, I am in love with three young ladies & I don't know what to do about it, if I am with one I wish it was one of the others, & when I am with one of the others I wish it was her, so you see I cannot enjoy myself with any of them. I think I shall give them all three the Grand Bounce & fall in love with some big Jew gal down town. I have loved them of every denomination except Jews, so I am going to try one of them for a change!!! You never wrote me all about your trip back from St Elmo. I often wonder how you got along & how many things happened to you (to scare you to deth [sic]) I know it is harder for you to write than it is for me, so I will let you off but you must remember it all & some day when we meet again [page 2] you must relate the adventures you went through. And we will go back there and hang that rascal and burn up his depot store and every combustible shanty in the God-forsaten-mud hole [sic], except that lady, that took us in. We'd elect her president of the United States & part of Canida [sic], would not we? That Depot man had better go [to] h---, when he dies for if he goes to heaven & I find him up there I'll cut his throat!!!!! I hope you enjoy good health. Give my regards to your Mother & tell her to take good care of you!!!! How is Tony Brandavater? Miss Annie, Nettie, Mrs Stewart (James) Give them my regards & a "bit of the top of the morning" Tell Tony, to be sure & remember me in his prayers!!!! Shed one tear (a big salty one) for me when Mrs Griffin gets married!! & send me a piece of the cake to give Carlo!!!! Well By, by, Take care of yourself & write to me soon. Did Dr Mitchell get the Rectory? Or who lives in it now? Twas ever thus from childhoods hour I've seen the freshest eggs decay, All the milk in town is sour Butter & cheese have crawled away!! G. H.
