Transcript	July 26th 1892 Dear Cam: Your letter reached my desk several days ago, but owing to my absence from the city for almost [a] week, did not receive it personally 'till today, upon my arrival. I have been out to Otumwa Ia [Ottumwa, Iowa], Excelsior Springs and Kansas City and Marian Ia and you bet it was a long trip, have been traveling [sic] all the time most, and hot (?) [writer's (?)] my goodness! Sunday I spent at that great northern summer resort Excellsior [sic] Springs and the Thermometer registered 108 in the shade. Sun strokes are very comon [sic] occurrences [sic] here in Chicago[.] I never felt as warm weather in my life [page 2] as here this summer. Well Cam, I really have no news to write you. Mother has stopped me from writing politics in my letter home-says I ought to write something else to her, and I guess she is right, for she dont [sic] want to be bothered any with such stuff and especially when I write home so I shall have to "sponge" on somebody and lay my political wrath at somebodys [sic] feet, and as you have asked me in your letter to give you some "dots" on the convention I see no reason why I should not accommodate you. But, is she not a "Dandy"? "Cleve and Steve" what a pair, what a power, and what a throne" Oh they will get there and "Weaver" with his colleague Harrison will be left to mourn the loss of a most triumphant victory. That man Weaver, nominated by set of so called peoples party is ten times worse than Harrison and if I had to vote for either of [page 3] of [sic] the two, my choice would be Harrison. Why everybody knows what sort of material Weaver was hewn off. When we look back to the Days of Greenbackism and smell a ghostly odor oosing [sic] from a rotten grove in which that terrible party was buried to never rise again, we see Weaver standing with a moonish smile across his face, marching from the ranks of the Republican party into that of a party so soon to die. A blacker deal was never perpetrated upon the people of the south than this last deal in Omaha where a few Southerners congregated to put Weaver in nomination for Pres. Why that is ten times worse than if they had joined the prohibition party and all nominated Miss Francis Willard. Of course [page 4] Cam it will do my old heart good all over if my choice is sent back to his rights in the White House, but I have some great fears now. Cleveland stands head in Ill, Wis, Ia, Pa, Inda, and many others of the important states, but today a mighty split in the Democratic party all over the South has made a change in which may be the cause of another Republican administration For Cleveland cannot be elected unless the South is for him almost solid, while of course he has a better show now than in 88-still-the P.Ps and straylers will take away a great many votes from the Democratic party where-as the Republicans remain firm and close to Harrison. They dont [sic] split up. Thats [sic] why they elect their man. They dont [sic] trot off and fizzle around looking for a new party to catch hold of. Thats [sic] not their doctrine and they dont [sic] preach. I say this much and [page 5] with all due respect to everybody Uncle Foot included, that if these people who took a run and start and went away up to Omaha to nominate a peoples party candidate, that instead of doing that together with losing all that time from their duties at home they would have been better off today, there is no question about it. I know one thing sure. That is, if the man who went from Copiah Co had remained home and attended to his crop he would have cleared for [sic] dollars per day at home, whereas he lost his four dollars totally besides his RRy expenses and more too his "rep" as a Democrat. I would not have no more faith in Milsaps [sic] judgement at a political nomination than I would [page 6] in a man who never could vote in his life. I'll bet Copiah county could write and endorse him again for representative and he would accept any position they offered him. I think its [sic] a pretty bad thing when a man will throw himself in such a light. I cant [sic] see what these fellows mean by deciding on the course they are persuing [sic]? Its [sic] a strange piece of business to me, they ought to have sense enough to know that they can't do anything and that they may forever lose all hopes of ever improving themselves[.] Its [sic] a dear sure thing-they cannot elect a president, and why do they try? The "peoples party["] here is looked upon as a fraud and is branded as such. They are not considered in the race at all[.] The South is causing all of this trouble just through this not headed flemsiness [sic], to get a bulge, but the south cannot do anything unless they have the East to back [page 7] them and the East cant [sic] do anything unless they have the West to back them. So you see if the south draws away from the East with the intention of dividing a majority, the East will look to the West for rescue and they will remain ten times closer and the consequences will be that when the polls are closed a very disjointed election will have taken place thereby leaving the East, West and South Democracy at the mercy of republican rule again. Such will be the case sure. The south cannot expect any bright prospects as long as it is divided. I hope to see the so called PP. crowded and squeeze beyond all recognition and forever destroyed from the existence of an intelligent nation. Long live Cleveland and may his brightest star [page 8] yet shine, to illuminate the path of the wandering fold, wherein he may see his wrath and comon [sic] error and turn back to Democracy, asking for a reinstatement. I hope that day is not far off. Yea, in Nov-next, when all people of as great nation as this shall assemble to cast an honest vote for Cleveland the only man who can and will satisfy the wants of the intelligent people of our country. Cam write me again real soon. I enjoy your letters very much. Give my love to Aunt Jennie I hope she is entirely well by this time. Love to all your family.
