Transcript	Oct 5 1890 Friend Cam, Yours rec'd & duly noted-am truly glad to know I did not disappoint you much by not going by the Grove & that you will be able to arrange the P.O. Books without my assistance[.] I wanted to see you very much but was afraid someone might be a little ahead of me & my trip would profit me nothing-am proud to inform you, though, I was on time & had no trouble in getting the position. Mr Taussig assisted me a great deal & so did other friends at Myles. $40.00 a month & Board does pretty well to start with. Think I could have done better had it not been for the high water. I am going to look around for [page 2] you, but would advise you to accept Miss Ida's offer if she will you enough. All things considered that country beats this. You know, too, you will have to get better acquainted with the business & one position is a stepping stone to another. There are always openings for competent & honest boys. I am 75 miles above V.Burg & just opposite Lake Providence. Can see the town on the other side & it looks like a very pretty place. I regret very much to have to be so far from my friends, but as you say it may be all for the best. Have not touched any why but once since leaving the Grove & hope to be able to hold out during my stay here. Cant [sic] you boys go to the Big Show at V.B. on the 16, will try to meet you. Please make a big effort to collect what is due me there. I wish you would pay Mr Head $3.60 now & at end of month ask Mr J. R. Bocat to pay you. Regards to all. Write soon TB.
