May 25th / [18]72 To: M. A. Banks, Westville Miss. Dear Pa We reced your letter a few days ago and was glad to hear from you. We also received a letter from Bettie the same day[.] she seems to be perfectly satisfied with her new house. We are all well and doing well[.] we had plenty of rain here yesterday which we were needing very much[.] it was the first we had for five weeks[.] about half the cotton planted in the County was not up to a stand[.] all my cotton was planted late and only about half of it is rip [sic] but it will all be up now soon[.] Corn in this county is mighty sorry looking and was needing rain to make it grow[.] We had a Hail Storm here on last Tuesday without much rain[.] it beat up the crops considerably in places We have just finish [sic] a letter to Bettie in reply to hers. She will hear from this part of the country pretty often[.] all of

Write to us if you cant [sic] come Goodbye from Your children, Cal & Jennie P.S. Ma's Family are well except Mrs Hollingsworth[.] she has been sick some time[.] she has something like consumption[.] we are very uneasy abot [sic] her. |
