Aug 5th 1913 Dear Mims: I have been thinking for quite a while that I would write you in regard to a matter that has given me much thought for the past few months, and that is what shall I do with my boys, (Miles and Gordon), as regards their further schooling. They finished here last term, and could not be advanced further-could only review. My idea is that they should be placed at some good high school or Academy. I have received several catalogues of such school, but have made no selection. No one realizes more than I that times are hard, money very scarse [sic] and hard to make. But I have the idea so fully fixed in me to give my my [sic] children an opportunity to get an [page 2] education, that I shall not hesitate to make amost any reasonable sacrifice that they might obtain it. I feel sure there is nothing so vitally nesserry [sic], in this day and time, & so essential to success as a good education; I don't mean a very high literary one, but a h--? Practical one. I have had so many occasions to realize this. Now what I wish to ask you is this: Can not you, Douglas and my self agree upon some plan whereby we might be able to send Mims along with Gordon? I can not think of sending my boy and leaving Mims behind. Mims is a bright boy, and with a chance will make good. If he could be helped further along he could here teach or get a job of some sort and keep himself. But with out some heelp [sic], means that he will grow up [page 3] to manhood with so limited an education that he could not accomplish very much. I wish you would give this your careful consideration, and write me soon. Write frankly any suggestions you may wish to make. This leaves all well. Hope you and Nettie ? good health. We would be delighted to have you all come out and see us and spend a while with us. Yr bro. CWlls |
