Nacoochee. June 9th 1868
My dear sister Mamie,
I am writing the first of this week, for fear I may be occupied upon our usual writing day. We have had a two days meeting at our church, and had all the ministers with us. Mr. Willie Morton preached for us twice, his brother twice, and Mr. Simmons Sabbath morning. Mr. M is a very promising young man-quite pleasant and agreeable. Mrs. Simmons spent several days with us, and left yesterday afternoon accompanied by her husband and Rev Mr. Williams for the Falls. They will return in a day or two and anticipate taking a trip on Lonah [?]. Mr. Williams was with us a day and night. A very youthful looking little gentleman of twenty one, is scarcely as large as cousin Charlie-quite good looking, and is said to be an excellent preacher. I have never heard one of his Sermons.
Sh. Simmons is living in Dahlonega this year.
I was thrown from a horse and pretty badly injured last Saturday. I had started to Church with Lattie behind me and Elleen in my lap, when the horse (Rock) took fright at my parasol which I attempted to raise and threw us all off just before we reached the orchard. Lat scratched her chin a little, but Elleen and myself didn't come off so well. Her forhead [sic] was greatly bruised and skinned, and I hurt my side very much.
