Oral history; interview with John Calvin Crecink, July 25, 2012, at the Lloyd-Ricks-Watson Building, Mississippi State University. Dr. Crecink died at his Starkville home shortly after this interview, on August 12, 2012. Dr. Crecink was born December 4, 1921, in Meadville, Mississippi. He was an Agricultural Economist with the United States Department of Agriculture, Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Economics at Mississippi State, and a World War II Navy Veteran. He began his scholarly career at MSU in 1943, receiving a Bachelor’s degree, then attended graduate school at the University of Virginia and received a Ph.D. from Iowa State University. While working for the USDA at MSU, he taught graduate-level courses and researched the Delta regions of Mississippi and Louisiana. He also authored and co-authored numerous publications during his career. In this interview, Crecink shares his memories of the Lloyd-Ricks Building from the late 1950s until his retirement, including the people and departments that made those years interesting and special, the integration of the Extension Service, and his Navy experiences.
