At Home Dec. 2nd 1861
Dear Mother The Stage passed again this morning before I had time to write to you. I shall send this to Brookhaven and it will not reach you so early. We are all well except myself. I do not improve. I have missed the fever several times but had it again last nite. I have had symptoms of Flux for several days which makes me weaker than usual. I have no late news from the war. There is another Company to leave Brookhaven on next Wednesday under the last requisition of our Governor. We have had Heavy rains last night and this morning. We have a good deal of cotton that is very white and I expect it is badly wasted. We have six big hogs to kill and they are very fat. The disease called diphtheria is at our nearest neighbors. If I improve soon we will come down and see you. Yours &c A. Shaw
